Douglasia - Information for Contributors

Members and others are invited to submit material for publication in Douglasia. Articles, book reviews, poetry, photography or illustrations are welcome. All materials submitted should relate to the appreciation, conservation and study of Washington’s native plants and their habitats.  Acceptance will be based on space and appropriateness, and materials are subject to copyediting (substantive editing with author’s permission). Contributors are reminded that the Douglasia audience ranges from professionals in botany and other sciences to the interested enthusiast.

Articles
Send as email attachment in Word, or a rtf (rich text format) or txt (text only) with minimal formatting please.

For plants whose ranges include California, follow the nomenclature of The Jepson Manual (Hickman 1993), since many species names in Flora of the Pacific Northwest (Hitchcock and Cronquist 1973) and Vascular Plants of the Pacific Northwest (Hitchcock et.al., 1955-69) have changed. For species not found in The Jepson Manual, follow the National Plants Database, available on the Web at http://plants.usda.gov/ or Flora of North America. A common name, on first use, should be followed by the botanical name in parentheses. Please provide the Hitchcock synonym for species whose names have changed.

Illustrations and photos
Send as an attached jpg or tif file, with reference in the text where the photo or illustration should appear. Do not embed or paste photos or illustrations in your Word files. Medium resolution (at least 150 dpi at the size they are used) photos will reproduce better. Any photo submitted at 72 dpi will not be included. Be sure to obtain permission from the photographer, and credit the photographer. Douglasia has standing permission to use, with credit, illustrations from Hitchcock and The Jepson Manual. Contributors are responsible for obtaining permission for illustrations from sources other than Hitchcock and The Jepson Manual.
