Pritchard Beach Park Photo-monitoring Protocols and Images

Prichard Beach Photo-monitoring

Starflower began a photo-monitoring program in fall of 2003. Fifteen photopoint locations were established and digital photos were taken quarterly. The resulting pictures have been archived and are accessible below. The pictures are grouped by photopoint number.

The map below shows the locations of the photopoints. Click on a photopoint number on the map to see images of the locations and directions to the photopoint locations.

Located by the sandy beach 3 ft south of the sign, “4 Reasons not to Feed Ducks and Geese (Seattle Parks and Rec.).”

Goal of Photo:

Typical view of the front section (N) end of the Phase II Meadow. Hedgerow is going to be planted.

West end of the North entry.

Comment:

We came back later in the afternoon, after the sun traveled more to the west, to take this picture since the location was in the shade in the morning.

Turn right off of main trail past amphitheater. Walk 71 paces south along chain link fence. This area is located between the Big Woods and Little Woods. Find the concrete slab/wall; from the dead center of the slab, walk downslope (east) for 40 ft.

In the Little Woods: In the N side of the W end of the boardwalk, find a big willow tree (this tree is in this picture); from the N side of the tree, with a bearing 326° walk 52 ft and set up the tripod.

Start at first large Douglas fir along the trail that you come to when walking toward the Southeast corner of the park. From the tree walk 90 ft down slope at a bearing of 240°. Your stopping point should be located ~ 8 ft south of a large cottonwood clump in the South Marsh.

Walk the trail across from the kiosk toward the east side of the park. Now walk south through East Upland until you come to a big birch tree with three trunks growing from the base. Place tripod in the west side of the middle trunk of the tree.
